URBAN RENEWAL AGENCY MISSION

It is the mission of the Garden City Urban Renewal Agency to assist with the revitalization of the Garden City core through the utilization of the Idaho Urban Renewal Law of 1965, chapter 20, title 50, Idaho Code (the “Law”) and the Idaho Economic Development Act, chapter 29, title 50, Idaho Code (the “Act”). The Agency is charged with eliminating unsafe conditions, fostering economic development, preventing the development and extension of deterioration and reversing the deteriorating action of the area through the creation of urban renewal districts and implementation of urban renewal plans.

AGENCY FOCUS

The Agency’s project intent in this new District is the same as it had been in the original River Front District since 1996. The intent is to replace and improve basic infrastructure (water and sewer lines, city wells, street improvements, etc.), to enhance amenities such as parks and greenbelts, and to support future economic development and tourism in the area.

AGENCY PARTICIPATION IN OTHER PROJECTS WITHIN THE DISTRICT

The Agency is able to assist property owners and developers, under certain conditions and agreements, with the development of public facilities, such as street improvements, gutters, sidewalks, etc. as well as open space and park development.

AGENCY COMMISSIONERS

The Agency consists of five commissioners, all of whom are community volunteers that have been appointed by the Mayor and approved by the Garden City Council. The Agency has no paid staff.
